Nguwaya honoured for innovation

Herald Reporter

BUSINESSMAN Mr Dilesh Nguwaya has been honoured by the Zimbabwe Integrated Traders Association ( ZITA) for innovation, in recognition of his leading role in the Pomona Waste Management Project.

Mr Nguwaya received a special Business Innovation Award during a ceremony held in Harare yesterday.

The project is a brainchild of the Government, working t hrough t he Ministry of Local Government and Public works, in collaboration with international stakeholders. The Pomona Waste Management Project is aimed at promoting the sustainable management of waste within the City of Harare and adherence to prescribed hierarchy of waste management.

It gained prominence as a mitigation measure to the present waste management challenges confronting the City of Harare. An inspection of the Pomona dumpsite presented a scenario where, without any interventions, the entire city was going to end up with dump sites.

The ZITA awards ceremony was graced by Russian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Nikolai Krasilnikov, who commended the organisers of the event for recognising various players whose function to the economy is to demonstrate that Zimbabwe is genuinely open for business under the leadership of President Mnangagwa.

Speaking after receiving the award, Mr Nguwaya said:

“The i l l ustrious, game- changing emergence of the new waste management will change the face of public service delivery in the country.

“The project is an outgrowth of the Government’s openness to innovations. Therefore, this award is not mine as an individual, but it is a special token presented through me in respect of a broader agenda which Geo- Pomona is promoting in line with the visionary cause of the Second Republic in creating an upper- middle class income economy by 2030.

“I also dedicate this award to the rest of my team that has seen Geo Pomona Waste Management surviving the odds to deliver a once- in- a- lifetime service to the people of Zimbabwe.”

Mr Nguwaya said the award was a timely motivation for him.

ZITA are a non- profit making policy advocacy entity for local business enterprises. Other businesspeople that were honoured include Nyaradzo Group CEO Dr Philip Mataranyika who received a Life- Time Achievement Award, Dr Philip Chiyangwa ( Best Male Leadership Qualities), and Mrs Betty Mudavanhu ( Best Female FMCGS Entrepreneur), among others.
